The Free Software Foundation of India (FSF-I), which was inaugurated in
Thiruvananthapuram by Dr. Richard M. Stallman in 2001, is completing
three years of activity on July 21, 2004. The Foundation is celebrating
this occasion as Free Software Day, 2004. In connection with this, the
Foundation is arranging an exhibition of free software at VJT Hall from
2 pm to 8 pm on Wednessday, July 21. Some of the Free Software developed
here will be displayed in the exhibition, including those developed by
organisations like CDIT, Keltron and Centre for Earth Science Studies.
The products include a complete GNU/Linux operating system and
applications in Malayalam (called Sopanam), a GNU/Linux operating system
with a set of applications that can be used for educational purposes on
a single CD and a similar CD with a powerful Free Geographical
Information System (GIS) and related applications. There will also be
posters explaining what is Free Software and a few applications for
popular uses.
